Day 2
The kids slept like logs last night!
At breakfast this morning there was a very large lady in her M&M pyjamas and slippers! Classy joint. We were all surprised when we were alerted to a sign in the breakfast room saying: "No one under age 16 may use the waffle maker".
We left the Sleep Inn at about 8.15 a.m. Our 605 mile journey ended at about 6.30 p.m. and was mostly uneventful, except for Rob getting his first speeding ticket! Shortly after crossing the Mississippi border, Rob was pulled over for doing 83 m.p.h. in a 70 m.p.h. limit.
The scenery was monotonous. For pretty much the entire journey, we were on straight interstate with trees on either side. In Louisiana there were quite a few crops - mostly corn and sugar beet (I think) and then, about 60 miles into Texas, the landscape started to open out into pastures that had surprisingly few cows in them.
We used the I-20 mile markers to count down to the next state border. When we crossed into Mississippi the mile markers started at 138; when we crossed into Louisiana they started at 187; when we crossed into Texas they started at 635!!
