Day 4
This morning Mark Oestreich dropped off Julie and Max at our hotel and the 7 of us went into downtown Dallas. We visited the Sixth Floor museum at the Dealey Plaza—a museum about JFK and his assassination, located in the building from which Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired the shots.
We walked a few blocks to eat lunch at Gators then drove back to the hotel. Watched a bit of t.v., went in the pool and hot tub then relaxed until leaving for the Superdrome at 6.30 p.m.
This evening's racing was a bit of a disaster. We didn't realise David would be racing so soon after the 7.00 p.m. start time. No sooner had he done some serious warming up on the trainer than the 10-12 boys were being called to bike check and then to the rails (almost at the same time). David started the race feeling unprepared and tired from the hard warm up. He got 11th place, out of 14. Rob, David and I all felt bitterly disappointed but the feeling subsided, especially after we witnessed a quite nasty crash in the 15-16 year old boys scratch race. One boy was removed from the Superdrome by ambulance, on a stretcher. By the time we left the Superdrome, David had got over his disappointment. We ate pizza back in the hotel room then went to bed.
